Social media addiction is a behavioral addiction characterized by excessive and compulsive social media and internet use that significantly impairs a person’s daily life.
It involves an uncontrollable urge to log on, spend excessive time on platforms, and prioritize social media use over other important activities such as health and fitness/family time
This addiction can negatively impact mental and physical health, relationships, and overall well-being if it is not addressed and dealt with.
Social Media Addiction can affect teens as well as adults. We have seen a strong uptake in the last 12 months from people who have ongoing issues with internet and social media addiction.
Our clinic now has a full-time Social Media Addiction Counselor on hand to deal with internet and social media addiction.
Treating compulsive gambling can be challenging. That’s partly because most people have a hard time admitting they have a problem.
Yet a major part of treatment is working on acknowledging that you’re a compulsive gambler and have a gambling addiction.
The Addiction Clinic uses CBT, a process of exposure to the behavior you want to unlearn, and teaches you skills to reduce your urge to gamble again.
Cognitive behavioral therapy focuses on identifying unhealthy, irrational, and negative beliefs and replacing them with healthy, positive ones.
Cocaine addiction is a complex condition that affects many New Zealanders and affects the individual’s physical, emotional, and mental well-being.
It involves compulsive drug-seeking behavior despite the negative consequences, such as financial difficulties, legal problems, and relationship issues.
People addicted to cocaine often experience intense mood swings, including feelings of euphoria and depression. Cocaine is a stimulant that can keep a person up all night.
This addiction can lead to insomnia and make maintaining a regular sleep schedule challenging and will effect all areas of the addicts life.
Cannabis often starts as a social habit and, in time, becomes an addiction. Cannabis Addiction is very real and affects a lot of New Zealanders. Generally, what we tend to see with this type of addiction is that it becomes a daily habit, and the user makes no real progress in life.
The addict will be full of great ideas of things they wish to achieve, but end up achieving nothing.
Despite its widespread use and a common belief that it’s not addictive, research suggests around 9% of people who use cannabis do go on to develop an addiction.
Cannabis addiction can negatively affect all aspects of a person’s life, including health, relationships, and daily responsibilities such as work, study, or school. Take a look at our program.
The Addiction clinic offers an after-hours counselling service for farmers. We contact our rural counselling services via Zoom or Telephone.
Alcohol addiction is very prevalent in rural areas, and getting help can be an issue. Rural New Zealanders are more likely to consume alcohol, and wastewater studies have shown higher alcohol consumption in less populated areas compared to urban centers.
This rural drinking culture, often intertwined with rural social gatherings and perceived as part of rural life, can contribute to higher rates of alcohol-related harm, including health problems, mental health issues, and even premature death.
